Dave MacNeil

Forensic Consultant & Investigator

Dave MacNeil is a nationally recognized forensic consultant, investigator, and instructor whose work concentrates on violent crime investigations, forensic photography, and crime scene analysis. Drawing on more than 38 years of law enforcement experience, including service as primary investigator and crime lab administrator for the Watertown, Massachusetts Police Department, Dave brings a depth of practical expertise that few investigators in the field can match. He played a key role in the Boston Marathon bombing investigation, serving as a primary investigator and local crime scene liaison during the capture of the suspects.

Dave's specialty work today centers on cold case homicides, sexual assaults, and unidentified remains, where he applies forensic investigative genetic genealogy (FIGG) to assist agencies across the country. He also serves the New England region as a consultant on missing child cases, providing rapid response and investigative support where it is most needed. His ability to move between the technical demands of forensic science and the field-level realities of active investigation is part of what makes his contribution to a case so distinctive.

At Level Investigations, Dave provides specialty consulting and forensic expertise on complex cases that benefit from his decades of crime scene, investigative, and instructional experience. He has also provided executive protection and forensic consulting for crime authors and film producers preparing for high-profile media appearances. His greatest professional passion remains working alongside detectives and public safety professionals on the cases that matter most.
